Best Brownies (adapted from Food that Really Schmecks)
1/2 cup soft butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cocoa (use “ruddy red”, find it at the bulk barn. Yes, it makes a big difference)
1/2 cup flour with a pinch of salt.
Cream the butter and sugar. Add the egg and beat until fluffy. Mix in cocoa, then flour. Bake at 350 degrees in a greased 9×9 square pan, 20-23 minutes. (they will be soft and seem not finished–but don’t worry, that is exactly how they are supposed to be!). Cut into squares (or hearts 😉 when cool.
